Laubin oboes are made by hand, using the same tools and machines
used to make oboes for a century. They are made one at a time, and the parts are
individually fit. While some may feel that this is excessively labor-intensive, it results
in a very high level of precision and reliability, which so far remains unmatched by
instruments made with computer-controlled milling machines and standardized parts. Our wood
is aged for at least ten years. Our keys are heavily silver-plated and hand-burnished for
beauty and durability. A plastic resin sleeve in the upper joint helps to prevent cracking
and increase the life span of the oboe. Our bore, undercutting, and tone-hole placement
have been perfected over almost eighty years.
